The Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS), is a global organization founded in 1958 that manages recreational, sporting, and scientific practices of various underwater activities, primarily scuba diving. One of the founding members and principal drivers of CMAS was French explorer and scuba diving pioneer Jacques-Yves Cousteau, who was elected as the inaugural president. CMAS comprises three main committees: the sports, technical, and scientific committees.
